Historical People Who Practiced Servant Leadership: Jesus

Christians and others celebrated Easter last month because that is the day Jesus conquered death. Over the centuries Jesus and his followers have transformed civilization. Jesus did not start a political movement, he demonstrated servant leadership. He called upon his followers to honor God and love neighbors as much as they loved self.

His words and example were radical in his day as they are in our times. He said "God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but have eternal life."

Jesus said "I came so that my sheep will have life and so that they will have everything they need."

To his followers, Jesus said "You are the light for the world. Let your light shine in front of people. Then they will see the good that you do and praise your Father in heaven."

And to those who wanted to achieve success and greatness, Jesus said: "I am among you as a servant." He called upon his followers to be like him.

The example of Jesus was clear. Ordinary people could change the world as they followed his example. The influence of Jesus continues to this day. As servant leaders, you are following the way of Jesus.
